The word faculty, is a term that comes from the Latin "faculty" which means " power or ability ". This word can have different connotations, one of them is having the ability to do something, this ability can be physical or intellectual. On the other hand, it is the one that refers to the educational institute at a higher level which transmits knowledge about a special career. In these institutions, people are instructed in certain knowledge that will allow them to carry out a certain job in the future. The faculties are several dependencies that grouped together make up what the university is, for example there is the law school, the medical school, etc. Each faculty is generally autonomous and different among them, from the deans who direct them to the budget they manage, the number of students they have, among others.
Within the legal context, the faculty is the right that an individual has to do something, as long as it is within the legal framework. Without suffering any consequence. For example: "minors do not have the power to vote." Generally, in the instances of law, it is taken into account that everything that does not appear as prohibited within the laws, can be carried out. There is also another legal sense that relates it to capacity. That individual who does not have the capacity to carry out a legal act, is not empowered to do so, therefore the proceeding act will be null.
We speak of a faculty when an individual has university training and work experience to carry out an activity, for example a doctor is authorized to practice medicine because the university where he graduated certifies it, the same happens with the lawyer, the teacher, etc.
