In biology, a fetus is called a child conceived but not born, which is no longer an embryo. For animals and humans, the fetus represents the product of fertilization, which has already passed the embryonic stage and continues its development process. The fetus evolves within a kind of bag that is inside the mother's body.
By ceasing to be an embryo, the fetus has the ability to withstand the damage that drugs, alcohol, some drugs, nutritional deficit or infections of the mother can cause, among other things.
In humans, from the ninth month of gestation (and until the time of birth) the embryo is already considered a fetus. His face can already be seen with greatersharpness, as well as their genitals, which means that by this stage, the mother already knows if she is going to have a female or a male.
The fetus has a very different circulatory system than humans who have already been born, especially because their lungs still do not work; This means that the oxygen that the fetus receives comes from the mother through the umbilical cord and the placenta.
On the other hand, in animals, such as dogs for example, the embryo becomes a fetus at 30 days of gestation, at this stage the animal's organs are already formed.
Returning again to the case of human beings, we must also highlight the importance of taking care of the diet and also the consumption of vitamins such as folic acid and iron, so that the fetus can begin to develop perfectly. The lack of them leads to the emergence of anomalies or congenital malformations that would end up causing the fetus some type of permanent disability at birth. From there also arises the importance of prenatal checkups, since through them all these things can be prevented, in addition to applying the necessary corrections in case of any abnormality.
At present, there are equipment such as ultrasound, which allow monitoring the evolution of the fetus, as well as being able to determine the precise time of pregnancy. Through the ultrasound, the doctor will be able to know the length of the femur, the circumference of the skull, the fetal weight and the length from the head to the coccyx.
