What is general? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The word General has two basic and essential tributaries, it is a word from the Latin "Generalis" which means "Common to all". The first use of the term is as an adjective, which is used to notice when a thing or a set of them are usual, or do not represent a difference between them. General can easily be interpreted as the antonym of “Specific” because when we point out something that is General, we are not making mention of what stands out with some different characteristic or that does not adapt to an established pattern, simply general is a word that describes what current, the basics, that which is common and corresponds to a whole of a certain nature.

The frequency and systematization with which an event occurs can create phrases such as "In general, this happens like this", confirming that the general term is an almost mandatory reference when we are talking about a pattern or a line of objects or situations always with a constant at least.

The second use of the word general is as a military rank. One of the highest and most emblematic of a structured military organization. The General of an army or of an Armed Forces is the one who has the highest hierarchy above the colonels, lieutenants, captains, soldiers among others. Many countries assign a general a specific mission, but "usually" a General is responsible for a complete field of military force in a country. In other words, a General is the one who, for example, commands aviation actions, while another general is in charge of maritime operations that take place in a training or battle field.

There are regular generals who are appointed to command and administer these fronts, but there are also war generals who are appointed only for the occasion. A person carrying out a military career has to go through the entire hierarchical structure established by the institution and have all the academic qualifications required to occupy a General position. The word general is also used as an adjective within the military field, when referring to an action coordination center such as Headquarters.
