The generosity is a human quality that is characterized by give and understand other individuals. In the 16th century (16) the word "generous" referred to the aristocratic sense of being noble or of high birth, so literally being "generous" was a way of saying that one belonged to the nobility.
However, during the seventeenth century (17), the meaning and use of the word generosity began to change, in order to describe the nobility of the spirit, associated with personal characteristics of birth and not with family characteristics. These traits were associated with the ideals of the nobility; such as gallantry, courage, strength, wealth, kindness and righteousness. Additionally, the word was also used to describe not only people but objects, such as fertile land, abundant food supplies, the power of medicine, among others. Later in the 18th century (18), the word “generosity” began to take the more contemporary sense of munificence or the action of giving money. and possessions to others selflessly.
This term is currently also related to gestures of philanthropy, and the charitable actions that an individual or group may have towards something or a living being, when reasoned in this way it is understood then that a gesture of generosity is not limited to a action from human to human, but also to actions carried out by the human for the well-being of something (physical infrastructure, buildings, spaces, or intangible entities such as groups or organizations) as well as towards other species. From the religious point of view, generosity is a highly desired quality in human beings, through it we aspire to achieve a happier earthly life.
In the Catholic religion, generosity is one of the Seven Cardinal Virtues, it is the counterpart of the capital sin of greed. Throughout the biblical scriptures, generosity is appreciated as an essential part of man who wants to please God, emphasizing that being generous is always well seen by God, since man is selfish by nature, therefore giving selflessly is an act of love to the neighbor.
