The word ability derives from the Latin "habilĭtas", habilitātis "which refers to" quality of skill "from the Latin" habilis ". Ability is having the power to do something or perform a certain action. If you do not have the ability to do something, it means that you lack the knowledge, strength or resources necessary to perform the action or task. A person's ability can be judged by what he knows or how much he has accomplished. In other words, it is the skill or quality that one has or obtained to achieve certain objectives, that is, the ability to adequately perform a particular action.. It should be noted that most human beings, including those who have an intellectual disability or a motor problem, can enjoy certain abilities and distinguish themselves from others.

Sometimes these abilities of an individual are hidden and therefore it is of the utmost importance that they be discovered so that he can develop as a person capable of performing certain tasks. There are people who think that they do not have the ability to do sports, art, study or even manual activities, since many times they do not even bother to try or have done it but with negative results, or with the disapproval of other people and they respond to their own denial and stop trying.

In the field of psychology there is an approach to this of skills, and it starts from the cognitive process of people, where the ability refers to the system of operations dominated by an individual who responds and regulates a goal, and that was obtained in form of habits and knowledge; and in this way it is that the aptitudes are developed, either quickly or slowly that depends on each subject. So on the one hand, manual ability and bodily dexterity are developed, which are the foundation of physical abilities; and on the other hand logical reasoning together with memory, the capacity for observation among others; which are the so-called intellectual abilities.
