It is an article, used to cut objects, which is made of steel or metal (the sharp blade and, on some occasions, the handle) and wood. At present, its use has been related to the felling of trees and the obtaining of wood; however, it was conceived primarily to be used as a weapon of war and hunting. Their exact origin dates back to prehistory, a time when they were made with rocks and long pieces of wood, being seen as a weapon that served to defend themselves against wild animals. Similarly, Roman civilization was one of the first to include them in battles, in addition to the Franks and the Germans.
Axes, over time, have been given new meanings, such as the belief that they could protect buildings from lightning or keep a community safe from a hail storm; just as special powers were attributed to her, due to the state of mind in which the subject who was holding her entered. In fascist Italy it was common to use the ax as the symbol of the dominant political awning, which was led by Benito Mussolini.
The forms in which these weapons are produced vary, as each model was developed and adopted by civilizations or communities with different needs. Among them are tomahawk, Danish, breastplate and bardiche axes. The characteristics that change the most is the shape of the blade and the handle, which can have details in their contours, or go from being small to large.
