A helicopter is defined as a type of aircraft that has great popularity among people, it is characterized and distinguished by the fact that it is supported and driven thanks to the use of one or more horizontal rotors, each composed of two or more blades. Helicopters are classified as rotary-wing aircraft, in order to be able todistinguish them from fixed-wing aircraft. The rotor for its part is that rotating part of the aircraft that allows the aerodynamic lift of the ship. It is important to note that the main rotor is located mounted on a mast in the upper area of the helicopter and for its part the tail rotor consists of a propeller applied to the helicopter's tail spar. The first causes lift and thrust, while the tail rotor only thrust.
Helicopters have a number of advantages over airplanes. Although it is true that the aircraft is unsurpassed since they have considerable speeds, autonomy (that is, the possibility of making long trips without stopping to provide fuel) and the ability to reach great heights, the helicopter has a series of elements that surpass the plane and which are mentioned below.
- First of all, there is the possibility of taking off and landing on a vertical path: which means that this aircraft can rest on top of a skyscraper, in a clearing in the middle of the jungle or, failing that, on the top of a mountain.
- It should be noted that in a helicopter there is the possibility of flying slowly and, if required, remaining static in the air, which makes it the ideal means to carry out rescue operations, search, control observation, etc..
- One of the main differences with respect to airplanes, which stand out for always going forward, helicopters can move in all directions: that is, to the right, left, up, down and even it is possible to move backwards.
In terms of its manufacture and use, the helicopter is much more complex and difficult to manufacture and to pilot with respect to the airplane. For this reason, its appearance in the skies of the whole world has arrived late with respect to the airplane.
