It refers to an infectious disease that occurs thanks to a bacteria that is housed on the surface of the skin, it occurs frequently in children. Impetigo can be classified as primary and secondary, the primary being a simple infection in the outer layer of the skin, while the secondary originates from other skin infections such as scabies. It is also classified as bullous and non-bullous, the bullous being characteristic for presenting blisters, usually on the hands, face, neck and the area where the diaper is placed.

The bacteria that are responsible for causing impetigo are staphylococci, especially Staphylococcus aureus, because it has a high degree of resistance towards common antibiotics to treat said infection, which makes it one of the most common causes of impetigo conditions.

In the skin of humans, a large number of bacteria are usually contained, when a lesion occurs in the skin where an opening is formed, the bacteria can enter the body and reproduce within it, causing infections in different areas. In general, this infection occurs in children where their parents do not have the best personal hygiene habits with them or because they do not have adequate sanitation conditions. In an adult individual, it is common for it to be caused by another skin infection or subsequent to a virus. Having direct contact with the infected person in the affected area is another cause of contagion.

This can occur in any area of the body, however it is more common in the areas of the hands, face, arms and in the case of babies in the diaper area, and it can present in two ways with blisters (blistering) or without blisters (not bullous), the latter being the most common, usually begins with the appearance of small blisters that explode, leaving the affected area red in their wake, which in certain cases can produce pus, then the scab forms. On the other hand, bullous impetigo, is characterized by the formation of large blisters inside which there is a slightly stirred liquid, it is common for these blisters to remain in the area for much longer if compared to the or bullous one.
