Incompetence is a property commonly associated with human beings in which an assigned task cannot be fulfilled due to lack of knowledge or ability to complete it. Incompetence is not limited to a specific field of social life, however, it is easy to find an example that corresponds in areas of work or study in which it is not only required that a goal or an achievement be met, but also the performance of an employee or student is constantly measured to assess their performance.

Incompetence has serious consequences for those who "suffer" from it in a social environment where the relationship is aimed at a final product. In a work environment, the new employee is usually tested on entry to determine if he or she is fit, capable and possible to perform the task with or without pressure. If he does not meet the skills or the result of his work is inefficient, he is classified as incompetent, therefore he is discarded and he is replaced with another candidate to fulfill the function. In the study, incompetence is paid with low marks or sanctions that imply a bad recognition of the attitude that is developing in the student environment. This is summed up as a negative result for the incompetent who cannot do well what they are assigned.

Incompetence can be the product of a lack of attention or interest in what is being done, at other times it can be due to the lack of intelligence necessary to complete the commitment. On many occasions, the lack of basic knowledge makes it impossible to optimize a process, so to prevent cases of incompetence, people are looked for perfectly capable in what is being requested and not people without experience in what is being done.

Someone can be judged incompetent for failing to perform their duties, not just for doing it wrong or wrong. These terms are coined in this way, generally in agencies that are exposed to public scandium: government administrations, educational institutions, representatives of a union or participants in a competition.
