The term religious intolerance refers to a form of intolerance against religious beliefs or practices or, failing that, the lack of such customs, that a person or group possesses. This can be caused by several factors, among them can mention the fact of having different religious beliefs, have a different ideology, as well as by the simple fact of having an anti - religious sentiment. This type of attitude can even lead to aggressionphysical, verbal, psychological, among others. A clear example of this type of intolerance in religious persecution that is experienced in various areas of the world today. The main cause that this type of attitudes on the part of society take place is mainly due to the absence of religious tolerance, freedom of religion and pluralism as regards religion.
It is important to note that there is no single cause that explains religious intolerance, however it is possible to speak of a very generalized argument among those who practice one religion and are intolerant of others. This argument is very simple: in general, everyone considers their religion to be the true one, for that reason it is normal for them to contradict those who defend false doctrines, from their point of view.
This is a phenomenon as old as the proper origin of religion. In ancient times when the first Christians carried out their rites, they had to hide in the catacombs since the Roman authorities of the time did not tolerate such beliefs. Since ancient times, the Jewish people have been the victim of persecution at many times in their history and the main motivation for this persecution was precisely hostility towards the customs and beliefs that they hold.
On the other hand, the religious vision of the pre-Columbian peoples was fought by the Christians when they arrived on the American continent. Even within Christianity itself there have been cases of intolerance towards other Christian doctrines, which have been classified as heresies or deviations from the authentic faith. All these cases mentioned are a sign that rejection and intolerance of the beliefs of others has been a constant that has occurred since time immemorial and continues to this day.
