The term winter refers to one of the four weather seasons present on planet Earth in the course of a year, it occurs between the spring and autumn seasons. This period is usually characterized because its days have a shorter period compared to nights, in addition to the low temperatures that occur which tend to be lower and lower as it moves away from the Equator, in the areas of tropical climate, the rainy season is also known as winter.

Depending on the geographical location, winter can start on different dates of the year, since if it is in the northern region with respect to the equator, it must start on December 22 and ends on March 21 with the so-called spring equinox, while that on the south side will begin on June 21 of each year and the equinox will mark its end on September 21, the dates listed above may vary a little depending on the year. In the northern hemisphere the winter usually have a period lasting a little more spread about the southern hemisphere, this is due to the elliptical rotation of the earth.

This season is considered to be the coldest of the year compared to the other 3 seasons, therefore its characteristics tend to be very different from those of the other seasons, since during winter temperatures can be quite low, in addition to the fact that days tend to have much shorter light times, these characteristics can become more noticeable as one is further from the equator, that is to say that one is closer to the polar circles, in some regions of the planet the fall of snow, for this to occur, certain conditions must occur with respect to the weather.

Due to the low temperatures, people when leaving the heat of their homes usually dress with coats and special clothing manufactured to protect from low temperatures, such as scarves, gloves, hats, thermal clothes among others since otherwise they could be compromised the health of the person.
