Gardening is the art or trade of caring for and cultivating a garden, understood as the land where plants with ornamental motifs are grown.When we talk about gardening, we are thinking about the health and growth of the plants and the fact that they complete a life cycle in good condition.

This activity is an attempt to tame nature, from the most modest family garden to large public parks. Gardening has important repercussions on the landscape, the soil, the rivers, the atmosphere, the fauna and flora.

The functions of gardening are to plan, carry out and maintain gardens. The gardener is responsible for independently and precisely preparing the land, planting plant elements, and maintaining maintenance; using the appropriate manual and mechanical techniques and means. This, in turn, must have great knowledge of botany, agriculture and architecture.

The origins of gardening date back to about 7,000 years with the cultivation of plants for food, the first evidences of ornamental gardens were found in Egypt and Mesopotamia. In Greece, in Rome and in the Western world there were huge gardens, most of them with a religious concept.

The beautiful Renaissance gardens were made to satisfy the luxury of the European courts. It was not until the 19th century that the concept of a garden open to the public developed with a view to this function was developed. Nowadays, gardening has been introduced in the urban planning of cities.

Gardening is intimately linked with landscaping, which tries to harmonize nature with itself and with the hand of man, it would not exist without gardening, because it involves plants and flowers, along with other harmonizing factors: textures, materials, natural or artificial relief , elements such as water, ponds, waterfalls, among others.

Proper gardening and landscaping in accordance with the surrounding environment helps to increase the quality of life of the population in terms of health, social well-being and comfort. In the smallest town or in the largest metropolis we find gardening and landscaping of the most diverse nature.
