Lamps or luminaires are devices that serve as support and connection to the electrical network of light-generating devices (called lamps, bulbs or bulbs). As this is not enough for them to efficiently fulfill their function, it is necessary that they comply with a series of optical, mechanical and electrical characteristics, among others.
It is possible to distinguish between a wide variety of lamps. Floor lamps are those that rest on the floor, while ceiling lamps hang from above. Table lamps, on the other hand, are located on different types of tables.
It should be noted that in order to successfully fulfill its function, the lamp must meet the following conditions: to efficiently control and distribute the light that is emitted, it is important that it does not dazzle users, but instead illuminates them accordingly.
On the other hand, the electric lamp, manufactured in series for normal lighting uses, began to be used in motor vehicles simultaneously with the adoption of electrical installation, that is, around 1908.
Automotive lamps are similar in operation to those used for domestic lighting and consist of one or more tungsten filaments together with existing holders within a glass or quartz bulb, within which the lamp is made. vacuum, and then, except for some low-power lamps, an inert gas is introduced, that is, it does not combine with the incandescent metal of the filament. Automobile lamps are distinguished from domestic lamps by their dimensions, generally smaller, and by the fixing system to the lamp holder, which requires characteristics that guarantee a precise and constant mounting position, so that a good centering of the filament in the parabola of the projector.
It is important to bear in mind that there are types of lamps and by their shape, we can distinguish:
- Floor lamps, those that rest on the floor.
- Table lamps, those that are placed on the tables.
- Ceiling lamps, which are hung from above.
- Foot or cane, and arm, the supporting elements;
- Lampshade or tulip, made of translucent material that diffuses light and protects your eyes from intense lighting;
- Bulb, which in variable numbers provides illumination.
Today's lamps are connected to the electrical network and consist of the following parts:
