The word abuse is used to designate all those actions that involve some type of aggression or violence. As the same word says, abuse is a way of treating someone badly, addressing that person or being alive in an aggressive way, with insults, yelling and even physical violence. Abuse is harmful to the recipient, as it can lead to serious injuries if the assault is physical and also emotional and psychological injuries when the abuse is verbal.

In societies where violence is a common method of communication, abuse is constant among different members of the community but also in thousands of different ways, which means that abuse is not exclusive to one gender, one socio-economic group, one a region or a type of physical property. There are still many societies in which simpler forms of communication and values ​​of respect, tolerance and community prevail.

There is no single and precise definition of abuse or maltreatment, since its characteristics depend on the context. The abuse can range from occasional name calling to a salesperson that the abuser is not even aware of the daily blows an abuser gives his wife.

In particular, abuse experts state that this can be physical, sexual or even emotional. The latter, for example, can be carried out by the abuser either out of intimidation or fear, degradation of the other person, indifference, imprisonment or rejection.

On the other hand, under the umbrella term of child abuse we can cover different types of situations, different in detection, etiology, treatment and prevention, but which have the common feature that negatively affect health physical and / or mental health of children. Studies show that women, children, the elderly, immigrants and animals are abused and this has to do largely with their powerlessness and the general belief that these groups are responsible for some evil or being helpless, they can more easily be abused by others.
