Mate is a concept with very different meanings. When it comes to Quechua mati ("gourd"), it refers to an infusion of yerba mate. In this sense, the term can also be used to name the recipient who allows the infusion or ritual associated with this custom.
More and more the consumption of mate is spreading worldwide and this is due, among other things, that it is highly recommended for the body. Specifically, these are the benefits it brings:

- It allows to delay aging.
- It is capable of reducing stress levels.
- It notably helps to make a correct and easy digestion.
- Improves cardiovascular health.
- It is highly recommended for people suffering from respiratory diseases.
In some Latin American countries, in colloquial language, the notion of companion is used to refer to a person's head or someone's talent and ability: "I recommend that you wear a helmet to protect yourself mate."
From the French mat, matte is an adjective that refers to something mediocre or boring: “Viviana painted her kitchen in matte blue”, “A matte noise indicated that someone was in the bedroom”, “The designer opted for a matte finish that It contrasts with the liveliness of the rest of the elements ”.
We can not ignore that mate is also the name that has a game for children of great tradition in Spain. It is developed through two teams and a ball. To start one of the groups, which will have the ball, it must be divided into two rows and face each other while the members of the rival team settle in another in the middle of the previous ones. The goal of the ball holders is to give this to one of the opponents and if they achieve the saying it will be removed. However, they must be careful because if the player they are trying to eliminate manages to catch the ball with their hands, they will not only gain a life but will also be able to choose which of their opponents is sent off.
In chess, checkmate (from Arabic aššāh māt, "the king is dead") is the move that ends a game since the king of one of the players has no possible escape.
In basketball, finally, a partner (also known as a dunk) is a game that consists of putting the ball into the basket with force pushing it down with one or two hands: “Spectacular Kobe Bryant mate!”, “A Mate de Pau Gasol sentenced the meeting ".
