They are institutions dedicated to commerce, industry, finance and even to provide different services to the public and whose resources are organized in an orderly manner to achieve their objective. For a company to enter the median range, it must not exceed the limit of workers, resources and annual sales, which will be established by the State where said organization is established.

In some countries, institutions are considered medium-sized companies with a payroll of between fifty and two hundred and fifty workers, with an annual balance between 10 and 48 million euros, while in other countries the limits depend on the area in which said organization specializes. For example, in Argentina a company is considered medium if it has a maximum of three hundred employees and its annual sales do not exceed 18 million pesos, on the other hand a company in the sectorCommerce is medium if it has up to 100 employees and does not exceed 13 million pesos in sales. In general, these types of companies work mainly in the commercial sector, this is due to the fact that the investments required to enter the industrial sector are very high and also due to the limitations in the number of personnel operating in the company.

These companies on many occasions help large companies, since they are hired to perform services that perhaps without being performed by the large company the costs of said service would be higher.

Unlike large companies, the products it offers are usually not so standardized, which allows them to adapt to consumer demands, which gives them an advantage over large corporations.

In recent years there have been a lot of technological advances in different areas and of course the business sector could not be left out of these advances, this has allowed many of these companies to modernize in order to provide a better quality of services and products, this can be counterproductive for those organizations that do not have the necessary resources to acquire said technology, this causes a stagnation in the development and growth of medium-sized industries and considerably slows down their objective, which is to offer quality products, that is why in many countries this type of companies are protected by the State, which implies that they have the same opportunities to access credit que las grandes organizaciones empresariales, permitiéndoles poder competir en los distintos mercados, además de ofrecer gran cantidad de empleos a aquellas personas que los requieran, fomentando así el crecimiento económico del Estado donde esté establecida.
