What is melomania? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

Melomania is the hobby or fanaticism or passion that a person feels for music, the person who feels this peculiar passion is influenced by a specific genre or artist. Unlike the manias that are related to dissociated behaviors such as mythomania (lying) or kleptomania (stealing), melomania is not considered a danger to society, because they do not represent any type of risk to society or at least to those around.

For the reasons described above, melomania is not considered a disease, it does not degenerate, it does not wear down life, a music lover can in fact base both his academic and professional activities on his musical tastes. The most that could happen from a negative aspect would be what affects the subject financially. A music lover feels the impulsive need to have all the records or products offered by the singer or genre in question, as well as attend all the presentations and concerts that the artist has. This represents expenses that can be exorbitant. According to Greek etymology, Melomanía comes from "Melos" which means "Song" and "Hands" which is the one that defines the passion behaviors of a person for something or someone.

The term Melomania has even been used in various generations as a compliment and intellectual behavior. Those who are fans of music, not only show a taste for the song or sound that a musical instrument emits, they also display a great cultural knowledge and superior intelligence. These people are commonly sought after to participate in audiovisual or folk projects.
