Anonim

Migraine is a condition characterized by a very deep headache that can last between 4 to 72 hours. Also known as migraine, it generates pain that can occur repeatedly, generally affecting one side of the head. In the same way, migraines are usually accompanied by other discomforts such as nausea and vomiting.

At present, the causes that originate these attacks are still unknown, however, it is believed that the appearance of these severe headaches is related to genetics, since there have been cases, where in a family, there are several members suffering from migraine. Therefore, it is believed that migraine is hereditary. Others, for their part, believe that the appearance of migraines may be associated with stress, anxiety, hormonal disorders, etc.

However, some specialists consider that migraine is due to an imbalance in the neurotransmitter serotonin, which ends up affecting a nerve called “trigeminal”, which dilates the blood vessels of the meninges, causing them to become inflamed and as a result originate the migraine.

All people (men and women) are prone to a migraine, however, studies show that the majority of those who suffer from it are women.

The symptoms of migraine can vary, some of them are: severe headache, which can sometimes incapacitate the person. These pains can be accompanied by nausea or vomiting. There are patients who can manifest a certain phenomenon known as aura. The aura is associated with the appearance of visual disturbances (flashes, blackheads, narrowing of the visual field, etc.) that appear a few hours before the migraine begins. These visual disturbances generally disappear once the migraine begins.

Migraines can be classified into: chronic and menstrual.

Chronic migraines are those that can appear at least 15 days in a month. They are rare migraines that are often due to hereditary factors, anxiety, depression, or the recurrent use of pain relievers.

The menstrual migraine, arises during the stage of the menstrual cycle. It begins with the first menstruation and ends with menopause.

Regarding the treatment to be followed in these cases, doctors recommend taking analgesics, anti-inflammatories. Similarly, there are other alternative therapies that help prevent migraines, among them are: eating a healthy diet, practicing yoga, acupuncture, massage, meditation, among others.
