Famous Parisian cabaret, built in 1889 by the Frenchman Josep Oller, who also owned the Olympia and Charles Zidler. It is located in the Pigalle red light district, at 82 Boulevard de Clichy, at the foot of Montmartre, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, France.
During the early years of the Moulin Rouge festive nights in which champagne ran and famous dancers performed. At this time the famous band that we know as the " French cancan " was born. The establishment served drinks while guests enjoyed the show or danced on the track set up for him. With its unconventional architecture and extravagant décor, which included an elephant in the garden, the Moulin Rouge could only attract a fun-loving society.
It was inaugurated during what is known as the Belle Epoque (historical period between the last decades of the 19th century and the First World War). The inauguration of the Moulin Rouge coincided with a time of great social, cultural and economic changes throughout Europe. In 1874 the artistic trend known as "Impressionism" had begun and many of its exponents were regular attendees of this type of shows. In the following decade, events of great importance would occur such as the construction of the Eiffel Tower in the framework of the Universal Exhibition of 1899. During this time, Paris attracted more than 40 million visitors from all over the world. It is impossible to disconnect the Moulin Rouge from the figure by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901), extraordinary exponent of French art who mastered all the pictorial techniques but became one of the greatest posterites of his time.
