Okupa is a movement or social group belonging to Europe, its principle is based on occupying buildings that are abandoned. Okupa then, in turn, fulfills two main functions, to use and recover spaces abandoned by the government's infrastructure commissions and to raise a message of protest against the economic measures of the government and the state in which the sites they recover are located. Okupa uses the space they take for various issues, among which are housing, cultural centers, assistance and aid centers for the evicted (the evicted), and even farmland.
In Spain, the economic system makes finding housing really complicated for people with low resources, Okupa is one of the main organizations protesting the housing crisis that is happening in Spain. Okupa also has its presence in other European countries, however, each organization has its guidelines, some more radical than others, for example the case of Holland, Okupa also carries out occupational protests, but when a private owner outside the legislation government is affected, Okupa deals with the issue a little more consciously, to the point of giving compensation to property owners.
Squat in Spain seeks to provide solutions to the housing problems of the unprotected, although it is true that the cause is good for those who need it, demographic studies show that the impact that Okupa has on the population, infrastructure and society is not very favorable. The actions taken by Okupa in Europe are constantly compared with the Favelas in Brazil, the neighborhoods in the hills of Venezuela and any improvised settlement that does not have the optimal conditions recommended by the health institutes.
In other parts of the world, the story is a little different, in Venezuela for example, communities affected by the lack of houses meet, locate a vacant lot, without permission or flag they occupy the site and Venezuelan laws are in charge of protecting the life of those who live there, housing projects are developed for the people who " invaded " the place and voila, without further ado, Okupa is nothing more than the invasion of property for the purpose of helping those who are homeless.
