Olmeca was a town that was established in the pre-classic period, it is considered one of the most important civilizations during the pre- colonial era, which means that unlike the theories that were had about this culture had been related with the Spanish colonizers it is totally ruled out. According to the experts, it is believed that its expansion zone is located in the current states of Tabasco and Veracruz in Mexico during the years 1200 and 400 BC, this means that it was a neighboring town of other cultures of great relevance in the area, such as the Aztecs.
According to deductions made by archaeologists thanks to the archaeological remains found, the Olmecs established three main ceremonial areas which they called San Lorenzo, La Venta and Tres Zapotes, the latter being the most recent built, at a time when the Olmecs they were already in a process of decline. For its part, the center of San Lorenzo was the first ceremonial area to be established, lastly the ceremonial center of La Venta was located right in the middle of both centers, this being its main heritage center, where more than 15 thousand people lived.
Currently the data about this civilization are very few, for this reason what is known about their way of life and society in general is very short, despite this historians have developed the hypothesis that they were socially organized in a hierarchical, where only people of great wealth could enjoy certain resources and privileges, in addition to this, most of the buildings made by the Olmecs demonstrate the supremacy that certain groups had over others. Other findings found throughout the territory of Mexico, suggest that it was a civilization that was dedicated to the trade of goods.
One of his most important contributions was being the first civilization to have ventured into the art of writing through the use of glyphs, for which they used a special technique known as epigraphy, another of his greatest achievements. It was to have created its own calendar, in order to be able to make time measurements.
