It is one that claims to be objective and that describes a certain reality. An affirmative sentence is one of two options (along with the negative sentence) that are part of declarative sentences, also known as assertive or declarative sentences.
Therefore, by establishing an idea in the form of a sentence, we can do so by affirming or denying something. Let's look at some concrete examples of affirmative sentences: it's eight o'clock, I'm hungry, it's an entertaining game. In the three examples there is information that, in principle, corresponds to the truth and that aims to communicate something objectively. With the incorporation of the word no in any of them, the sentence would become negative.
Affirmative sentences, therefore, are used to state something as a truth. Of course, it does not mean that the above is actually true (someone may say "my pants are blue" when, in fact, the garment is green), but it is given a character of truth through grammar.
Other examples can be:
- It's five.
- It's raining.
- Maria is a brunette.
- My name is Rogelio.
- It is a 25 ton truck.
It can be said that sentences are those sets of terms, or even isolated words in some cases, that constitute a unit of meaning and that have autonomy from the syntactic point of view.
There are a wide variety of types of sentences. Among them are affirmative sentences, which are those that declare or enunciate something with true character. For example: "My pants are blue", "Luciana's dog is very big", "The game will start at 9:00 pm"
We have to say that, in turn, affirmative sentences can be classified into two clearly delimited groups:
- Positive prayers. As their name suggests, they are those who what they do is report something by stating an objective fact. A clear example of this would be the following: "In Andalusia temperatures rise a lot in summer".
- Negative sentences. On the contrary, these phrases are those that are responsible for accounting for something through the denial of a specific fact. An example of these to be able to understand them correctly can be the following: "Cheese is not obtained from olive oil ".
