What is orthopedics? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

It is the technique that seeks to correct or prevent deformities of the human body through body exercises or various devices. Orthotics are called orthotics or orthotics, and they differ from prosthetics (which seek to artificially replace any part of the body that is, for whatever reason, missing).

Many are the people who suffer a trauma, an illness or a pathology of different severity that require going to an orthopedist to be able to buy some of the products that are on sale. Thanks to them they will be able to correct the health problems they have or, at least, reduce the damage they suffer.

Some time ago, orthopedics was dedicated to the care of children with deformations of the spine or extremities, currently orthopedics is dedicated to patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfoot, young athletes who need arthroscopic surgery to the elderly with arthritis. Anyone can break a bone.

Orthopedic doctors deal with problems that affect the skeletal muscle system. Your orthopedist specializes in:

  • The diagnosis of your injury or disorder.
  • Treatment with drugs, exercises, surgery, or other treatment plans.
  • Rehabilitation recommending exercises or physical therapy to regain movement, strength or function.
  • Prevention by providing information and treatment plans to prevent injury or slow disease progression.

While most orthopedists are in general practice, some may specialize in foot, hand, shoulder, spine, hip, knee, and pediatrics, trauma, or sports medicine. Some orthopedists specialize in various disciplines.

On the other hand, an orthopedic technician is known as the specialist who designs, manufactures and takes the necessary measures for the development of orthotics and prostheses. The use of these devices is diagnosed by doctors.

The orthopedic surgeon is a physician with extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

Many are the entities around the world that group orthopedic technicians. Specifically, in Spain are the CEO (Spanish Orthopedic Confederation), FEDOP (Spanish Federation of Orthotists and Prosthetics) and FETOR (Spanish Federation of Orthopedic Technicians).

Traumatology is another concept related to orthopedics. This branch of the discipline is dedicated to the treatment of patients with trauma, fractures or deformities of different types.
