Otitis is a disease of the ears, as a result of an inflammation in them, caused in most cases by an infection. Otitis can be classified according to its location into: otitis media and external otitis. The most common being otitis media, which originates from the inflammation of the middle ear, located at the back of the eardrum.

Otitis media is a disease that children frequently present, therefore, age is one of the general causes of its appearance. Other causes that cause otitis are: obstruction of the Eustachian tube, presence of bacteria, viral infections (influenza, adenovirus, etc.). Environmental factors, the presence of this disease is very common during the very cold season.

Symptoms that indicate the condition of otitis media are: pain of ear and hyperthermia, in some cases frequent may occur some fluid secretion.

Otitis media is classified as: acute; this is an infectious contagious disorder that damages the respiratory system and whose main manifestation is coughing. Sub acute; its main characteristic is the segregation of a liquid contained in the cavity of the middle ear, without presenting any type of symptoms. Chronicle; otitis becomes chronic, when the exudate persists for more than three months.

Meanwhile, otitis externa is an infection in the outer part of the ear and the canal ear. It is also known as swimmer's ear, since it is very common to occur in patients who are in frequent contact with water, hence its main cause is swimming in unclean waters. In the same way, there are other factors that influence the appearance of external otitis, one of them is scratching the inner part of the ear with any object or cleaning the ear canal with swabs that far from helping what they do is affect it.

Symptoms that warn the presence of otitis externa are: segregating ear colored yellowish green and malodorous; ear pain and stinging.

To get a positive diagnosis, the doctor will look at the inside of the ear through an otoscope. This examination will reveal the reddened areas, as well as the presence of fluid behind the eardrum.

The treatment for this condition is through the application of oral antibiotics and analgesics, such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, also in cases of otitis media the doctor may medicate decongestants and mucolytics.
