Etymologically the word pustule comes from the Latin “pustŭla”. The royal academy defines the word pustule as an inflammatory bladder of the skin filled with pus; That is, they are small lesions where liquid or pus accumulates inside the epidermis, almost always in a pore or hair follicle, this appears on the skin in the upper part of an infected or inflamed area with an almost always rounded appearance.
These pustules form with body fat and cells that stick together and harden on the skin; They are created when the head glands produce excess sebum. The excess fats flow from the skin through the sebaceous follicles, combined with the cells that have flaked in the surroundings, settle at the termination of the follicles, transforming into a plug that blocks the skin's pores; the continuous flow of fat and dead cells that cover the follicles are transformed into raised spots that appear on the surface of the skin as small, usually white spots called pustules.
These lesions can be caused by various diseases such as acne, folliculitis, secondary syphilis, among others; and they can occur in any area of the body, but mostly in areas such as the face, shoulders, back, on the sternum, shoulders, in areas where there is presence of sweating such as the groin and armpits.
Regarding the treatment of these elevations depends on the cause; If it is due to a bacterial infection or another disease, it should be examined by a doctor who is in charge of the correct prescription of antibiotics or the corresponding medication.
