The word screen in the Spanish language is used to define various things, however its main use is to refer to the piece belonging to a computer, television, cell phone or other electronic instrument through which texts or images can be displayed. In this sense, you can find different types of screens:
Flat screen: it is a kind of very thin monitor, a property that makes them less heavy, as well as taking up little space, quite the opposite of traditional screens. This type of screen is very popular in televisions and computers.
Within the flat screen group are the so-called plasma screens; This type of screens has plasma technology, which is based on the projection of light using the electrical alteration of a gas. This technology makes it possible to achieve high contrast displays. However, this kind of screen is still a bit expensive; in addition to representing a high energy consumption, which may be higher than that of an LCD screen.
LCD screens, or liquid crystal displays, are manufactured using two parallel transparent plates with slots, with a 90º orientation to each other. Touch screens are those that just by touching them directly on their surface, allows access to data and device commands. This type of screen is very popular in company devices and in public computers, such as ATMs, information screens, etc. Today most smartphones have a touch screen, as do tablets and iPods.
Finally, the term screen is also used to refer to the large surface, found in movie theaters and on which movies are projected.
