What is pantomimic? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

Pantomimic is a specialty of the dramatic art applied in the language of mime (communication through gestures). Through pantomimic stories can be told, without the use of dialogue or words, that is, the narrative is based on expressions or body movements. The artist who expresses his feelings and ideas through gestures is called mime.

Through pantomimic, the mime tells stories through their gestures and movements, their performance is usually solo and their body is the medium they use to communicate. The pantomimic has its origin in ancient Greece and where the artists used masks with different emotional expressions to be able to play the role, all this used to be accompanied by music.

With the passage of time this scenic discipline evolved in many ways: in the form of comedy or drama, oriented towards the acrobatic or directed towards children.

In the same way, pantomimic is frequently performed in street theaters, where the mime performs individually, its wardrobe being one of the most important elements. It must be very characteristic, since the visual impression it generates on the viewer is essential, since if it is not, it does not cause an impact. It should be light clothing that facilitates the execution of movements, the classic colors in the mimic wardrobe are black and white. White gloves are used to highlight the hands. The face is usually painted white.

Artists such as Marcel Marceau, Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton have shown great talent for pantomimic.

The elements that make up communication in pantomimic are:

The gestures of the face; the face is made up of many muscles, which is why the mime when performing movements with it, can represent various gestures to communicate.

The posture of the body. Mime by adopting different postures will be able to express different emotions.

The gestures of the hands. Through them it is possible to accompany the language and complete the communication. Hands do not need sounds to express many concepts.

With pantomime, the body becomes an irreplaceable instrument of human expression which allows it to have a connection with others and with the environment.
