The word poro comes from the Latin “porus” and this in turn from the Greek “πόρος” which in Greek means way, passage, path, path etc. Pores or in plural pores are the holes or spaces in the skin not visible to the naked eye that are found between the body's molecules, through which toxins and sweat are usually expelled from the body. These holes are found in the dermis and it is the end of the sweat gland ducts. It should be noted that these holes are also found on the surface of animals and plants.
When we speak of "pore" it is made to refer to any small hole or air hole that can be located on a certain surface; The appearance of these holes or pores on the surfaces means that it is a delicate surface because air can cross through it, and therefore it is not made entirely of matter.
There are several types of pores such as the alveolar pore, also called Kohn's pores, they are openings located between pulmonary alveoli that allow the passage of air from one to the other, as mentioned before. There is also the dilated Winer pore, this is a solitary pore that can be found on the face, back or even extremities, filled with a keratinous plug bordered by a hyperplastic follicular epithelium. And finally there is the gustatory pore, they are those that have gustatory corpuscles on the surface of the lingual epithelium.
On the other hand, in northeastern Argentina and Bolivia, the word poro from Quechua "púru" means pumpkin in the shape of a pear and with a neck, which has various uses, including for priming mate.
