What is prequel? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The term prequel is a new word which defines a working cinematographic, literary or theatrical, which is based on facts that happened before the initial story, ie that tells prequel events that have already happened and that shows the origins of what was observed in the original story.

This neologism comes from English, it was used for the first time with the realization of the novel "They Shall Have Stars" whose author was James Blish, this novel represented the first of a tetralogy. However, although in the past there was no term that defined this class of works, it is thought that the prequel had its origin from remote years. For example, some experts consider that the poem " Cipria " is considered a prequel to the "Iliad".

It is important to note that the prequels are not always guided by the plot of the original work, since the story can go a little further, narrating unexpected events. Although they tend to offer more information about the precedents of current history, it does not necessarily happen in a very clear way.

As already mentioned, prequels are very common in the art industry, through them it is possible to retake the first story of the original work. A clear example of what a prequel is is the movie "the Xmen: first generation", which is based on the original trilogy, the same happens with the movie Night of the Demon 3, which does not have much to do with the Original story and its sequel the night of the demon 2, rather the story focuses on the medium, before she came to the lives of the Lambert.

Currently the film industry has released to the public many prequels of films that have been very successful, but for various reasons cannot continue to advance chronologically. Some of them are mentioned below: Batman Begins, Rise of Planet of the Apes, Casino Royale, Hannibal Lecter, etc.

On television it has also been possible to observe these types of stories, there is the case of superman, this super hero died in the comics, but the television industry developed a series based on his youthful years called Smallville.
