Risk prevention is related to the planning of protection measures that seek to minimize any future event that may cause physical harm to people. In other words, when faced with any particularly risky action or situation, individuals take certain precautions, just in case the risk is imminent and becomes a danger to their physical integrity.

In the work environment, having risk prevention planning is important, especially in those jobs whose activity implies a certain risk for those who work there. Example the construction sector, mining, chemical industries, etc.

The prevention of occupational risks seeks to promote the safety of workers, through the identification, control and evaluation of hazards related to a production process, as well as promoting the development of actions and measures necessary to avoid risks from work.

Risk prevention includes certain organizational systems of work activity and the implementation of appropriate uniforms, in order to protect the health of the worker. In the industrial sector it is important to maintain control of toxic materials and waste, in this way, the worker and the environment are prevented from being harmed.

When planning risk prevention measures, you should first start with the environmental assessment, this should be carried out by a staff specialized in the subject. Among the purposes of said evaluation is:

  • Analyze the conditions of the job, this includes the facilities, work implements and products used in it.
  • Determine what are the risks to which workers are exposed.
  • Set a numerical value for each risk detected.
  • Propose a set of measures that allow the reduction or elimination of risks.

This evaluation is very important to be carried out by all the companies as it will allow them to develop an execution plan in order to resolve any eventuality that may arise within the company's facilities.

On the other hand, there is the prevention of risks in the face of natural disasters, this consists of the elaboration of prevention measures in the event of a natural disaster event that may generate some physical damage to people. Its objective is to reduce the impact, especially in terms of human losses. It is important to note that in order to have an efficient prevention system, it is necessary for both government entities and the general population to become aware of the need for a prevention system for natural disasters.
