The word privilege is used to define a certain right or advantage that some may have over others; There are privileges that are totally legal and that society accepts, however in most cases the privilege can be the product of irregularities between those who make up a specific society. The truth is that a privilege gives whoever has it a certain advantage over other people, since it implies enjoying special treatment.
This concept is strongly associated with a specific social group that supports the advantages and benefits, above other people; situation that clearly refutes the criterion of equality before the laws.
As is known, throughout the history of humanity, in the social sphere there have always been the privileged sectors. For example in ancient Greece, only men could be considered citizens. In Rome, there was a social class called "the patricians", these supposedly were considered the descendants of the first settlers of the city and that due to this they had the right to enjoy special privileges, both in the private and in the public sphere.
On the other hand, it can be said that the privileged classes are those that make up the upper class, that is, those that have enough economic resources to hold power and advantages; they can access all services and live in beautiful and comfortable homes, etc.
In the judicial sphere, a privilege can be a special concession granted by the authorities. For example, an inmate who has good behavior, can be privileged by a judge, to the disminuirle his years of confinement and check out time from prison
