What is prophecy? »Its definition and meaning

We refer to a prediction made by a subject or person about a future event that may be by some divine or higher inspiration, or by the observation of certain clues or by the intuition of the person who makes the prediction guessing or predicting the fact of what is going to happen.

Although its most remote origin is in the Greek language. It is the supernatural gift that allows knowing distant or future things by inspiration of God. The term is also used to name the predictions made under this gift.

It is a clairvoyance about the future. I am different from predictions in that they follow a logical process, while prophecies are not linked to reasoning, but to divine inspiration. In everyday language, however, we speak of prophecy as the conjecture formed by signs or indications that are observed: “The deputy’s prophecy about social violence was precisely fulfilled”, “Faced with this reality, my prophecy is that the fish will disappear soon From this river ”.

It is interesting to note that one of the classic films of the horror genre is precisely called "The Prophecy". It was directed in 1976 by the film director Richard Donner and is made by actors of the stature of Gregory Peck, Harvey Stephens, David Warner and Lee Remick.

We also know the term prophecy as those written documents that were made by great and important prophets and that have been compiled in the Old Testament from the biblical text. That is why in various monotheistic religions such as Judaism, Islam and Christianity the prophecies are the designs of God, and therefore, the prophets are also considered as messengers of God on earth.

Throughout the history of mankind there have been various prophets as well as false prophets; However, within the most important and well-known is Nostradamus, to whom important prophecies that have been fulfilled are attributed, such as the coming to power of Hittler and the atomic bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Some also attribute the Twin Towers terrorist attack as a prophecy, however other opinions have determined it to be a falsehood.
