Pseudoscience, also called paraciencia, is a discipline or specialty that is delimited by certain beliefs, practices, knowledge and non-scientific methods, but that claim this condition, that is, they do not have a firm physical or scientific basis but in the same way do not demand it implicitly nor explicitly. In other words, pseudoscience can be defined as a matter that is usually shown as scientific or that copies the structures of science, although it is not recognized by science as such. This discipline or practice is not based on a fully legitimate certified method, even if it is presented as scientific, due to its lack of reliability or lack of scientific evidence.
Breaking down the term pseudoscience, we have the prefix "pseudo" which means false or alludes to falsehood, misleading and indicates imitation; plus the word "science" which is the group or accumulation of knowledge that one has on a certain subject, after carrying out a series of investigations, observations and analysis of its phenomena. Therefore we define pseudoscience as a false practice that does not have any scientific basis. This word is usually considered negative, because it openly suggests that something is being wrongly shown as science.
Paraciencia or pseudoscience is usually characterized by making extreme statements, impossible to verify or vague, the lack of willingness to examine by experts, the lack of systematic processes for the realization of rational theories, among others. several examples of this practice are numerology, astrology, homeopathy, feng shui, tarot, parapsychology, ufology, psychoanalysis, graphology, quackery, alchemy, etc.
