Skyscrapers is the name given to buildings that are much higher than what is considered normal, which is on the property to be inhabited. However, according to those declared by certain government agencies of the various countries, a skyscraper is any building that exceeds the height of those around it. In general, it is said that to be considered a building of this class, the construction must be at least 100 meters high, considering a large skyscraper at 150 meters high, passing through those that are 300 meters and the 600 meters.
Skyscrapers were invented in Chicago, United States, being considered one of the most important inventions, a symbol of modernity. Although, clearly, these could not be developed without the creation of the elevator, in addition to small advances at thestructural, such as reinforced concrete, glass, and hydraulic pump, allowing progressively to increase their height. At the end of the 19th century, these became common in areas with high population rates, such as New York, Chicago itself or London. In the last two, despite the growing popularity, they encountered regulations that limited the height of buildings, because they are considered aesthetically unpleasant and there were doubts about their safety against fires.
The advantage that skyscrapers represent is to take advantage of the land on which it is being established. In addition, it can accommodate a significant number of people. Today, when technological and architectural advances allow the creation of more complex skyscrapers, there is competition for the tallest skyscraper in the world. In this year, 2017, the tallest is the Burj Khalifa, with 828 meters high.
