A reality show is a way of making television, whose main objective is to show real life events that happen to common characters, this type of programming is usually characterized is that fictitious characters are not used, that is, people who participate in them, are not actors by profession, nor should they follow a scriptpreviously written. The term Reality Show derives from the English language and when translated into Spanish it means “reality TV”. These kinds of shows are mainly focused on highlighting the drama and conflicts of the characters' daily lives, which can be put in comparison to documentaries, in a sense. The use of confessionals is another of its aspects that stands out, since this is a segment where the participants of the reality show comment on what happened.
This type of programming has a large number of people who support it, however it also has a large number of opponents. On the one hand, the people who support them argue that these types of shows are quite complete since they fuse both fictitious and real recreational aspects, as well as educational and informative elements. But on the other hand, those who detract from it say that such programming is obscene since it highlights the morbidity of the people who participate there, which can end up harming the participants.
Reality shows first emerged in the United States, initially they were humorous programs that used hidden cameras for their production. Then already in the 50s they began to evolve in programs like Miss America, however it was not until the 70s that this genre began to gain greater strength with the arrival of the reality show América Famlily, which it was about to follow the daily life of a family.
At present, this type of program can be seen and produced in almost any part of the world, being its theme very diverse, since it can include singing competitions, dance, physical competitions, survival, love relationships, fashion, construction, cooking, etc.
