Resuscitation is the term that receives a set of therapeutic measures that allow to restore or maintain the vital signs of a person, such constants include respiratory, nutrition, cardiac, excretion functions, among others, which can be interrupted or hindered due to various factors such as, for example, some trauma, pathology or in the course of general anesthesia.

On the other hand, an emergency process to save lives is known as CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which is used at the moment in which a person has stopped breathing, or the heart of the same has stopped. This technique generally combines mouth- to-mouth breathing and cardiac compressions.

The situations that cause resuscitation is required are many, mainly in accidents with multiple injuries, especially if it is a head trauma, hemorrhage, heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrhythmias, drowning, etc.

The need to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation arises after an accident, such as an exposure to a source of electricity, after a strong electric shock, a fall into a body of water that ends up leading to drowning or a heart attack, for only mention some of the most common causes of arrest in heart activity.

The main goal of CPR is to keep the blood flowing through the heart and brain: in this way, tissue death is partially prevented. Without a doubt, CPR is the first step to keep the person alive and without damage to the brain, however, it is necessary to emphasize that then other more advanced techniques must be continued so that the heart can resume normal functioning.

To carry out a resuscitation, it is necessary for the person who performs it to compress, with rhythmic movements, the victim's chest. There are experts who also recommend mouth-to-mouth breathing to ventilate the lungs, however, there are others who consider that this artificial respiration is not really necessary. It should be noted that before beginning cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the subject must be sure that the victim does not react or breathe. After that, it is recommended that you request help while you begin to compress the individual's chest.
