What is recycling? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

It is the process by which different types of waste are used that are reused and converted into new products or raw material that will later be used for the manufacture of different products. Recycling emerged as an alternative for the indiscriminate use of raw materials of natural origin, in addition to that to reduce the contamination of the different elements that the planet provides us.

In the world there are a large number of materials that today and thanks to technological advances, can be recycled, such is the case of paper, glass, plastic, metals, among others. Recycling is considered vital for reducing waste and is the third component of the law of the three Rs, which is a kindpractice that pursues the possibility of a self-sustaining society, the other two components of said law are "reduce", which is characterized by promoting the decrease in the production of products that in the future may become waste, in addition to encouraging the purchase of sustainable products. Finally, there is "reuse", which consists of reusing a certain product in order to increase its useful life.

Recycling is a process that requires several stages, the first is the recovery of the material to be recycled, currently to facilitate this part of the process, colored containers are used (yellow, green, blue, gray and brown) where each colorrepresents the type of material to be recycled, then these materials are transported to the transfer plants, here the waste is mixed for subsequent transport in large quantities to the sorting plant, in this phase the waste is separated, which is useful of those that don't, they are later transferred to landfills. Finally, the already classified waste is taken to the recovery plants, here the waste is recycled and stored for later use or for energy production.

The colors of the containers represent the type of waste that can be deposited in each of them. The yellow color is used for containers either plastic, cans or bottles. The blue color is used for cardboard and paper waste, be it magazines, newspapers, boxes, among others. The green color is exclusively for depositing glass products. While the gray container deposits organic waste.

The importance of this practice lies mainly in the reduction of waste production, which in turn means a decrease in the deterioration of the environment.
