Resistance comes from the Latin Resistentia, from the verb Resistire which means to stand firm or resist. It is a term that is applied to the physical capacity that a body has to withstand an opposing force for a certain time, whether this force is any external agent to the body that tries to prevent the completion of this work. Of course, the previous concept is general but if we divert it to the different areas of physics, hard sciences and everyday life, we find direct relationships of this word and the like. It should be noted that this word has received various connotations in various areas such as physics, engineering, psychology, medicine and geography.

The resistance of an element is the ability of a solid to resist applied forces and forces without breaking, deforming or being damaged.

Aerobic resistance involves the wear and tear of the body's organs, caused by performing aerobic exercises, which are opposed by air and gravity. Anaerobic resistance, contrary to aerobic resistance, implies the maintenance of an effort in a constant manner until the absence of oxygen demands that the body cease resistance. It is important to note that it is not advisable to perform an anaerobic resistance without a previously aerobic one.

Another important concept is physical resistance, which is generally used in electrical terms, this refers to the ability of an element or substance to resist the passage of current. The use of resistors in electrical circuits is important since they regulate the excess current that passes through the conductors, preventing the components of said circuit from being directly affected by the current. A resistance in physics is measured in Ohms and diodes that are capable of diverting energy are marketed in kind.

For psychology, resistance is an attitude opposite to the therapeutic setting. A resistance behavior is an oppositional behavior of one individual towards another (or others), which can have a positive or negative value.

In the social sciences, resistance involves a person's rejection of practices that have so far allowed them to think about themselves. Thus resistance implies an individual or collective search for other practices. It is also common to associate this term with guerrillas facing a totalitarian government or sects that do not share what is established in a code or law that society must comply with, they are called resistance since they are opposed to any official design.
