Abstinence syndrome (SA) is called a set of physical reactions that occur when a person who is addicted to a substance stops consuming it, the most common addictions for which this syndrome occurs are alcoholism, drug addiction Like cocaine and marijuana, smoking and caffeine addicts can also have the syndrome. This is not considered as a disease but as a condition that causes imbalance in the body.
There are different types of withdrawal syndrome, the most frequent being the acute type, which causes a lack of control in both the physical and psychological body, it appears almost immediately when the substance that causes the addiction is stopped, the symptoms can vary depending on the substance and the amount of it that is usually consumed on a regular basis, being frequent that the opposite symptoms to those produced by the psychoactive substance occur. It is also likely that this withdrawal syndrome variable is accompanied by other types of AS that are not usually common, some of them are:
- The psychological withdrawal syndrome: it occurs when the addicted person finds himself in situations in which he usually used to consume the substance, this happens because over time some customs are associated with the consumption of said element, causing a stimulus in the person if they are in a similar situation, such is the case of people who usually drink coffee in the morning or smokers in specific situations.
- The late withdrawal syndrome: it is usually related to this variable with modifications in the nervous system that cause alterations in mental and physical health, its most outstanding characteristic is the constant interruption of the normal life of people, frequently causing the person relapses into their addiction.
The symptoms that occur most frequently and that tend to be constant in most cases regardless of the addiction that occurs, are anxiety, not being able to be still, stress and nervousness. Hallucinations, dehydration, and migraine may also be present.
