A sanctuary is called a place in which an image or relic is venerated, generally religious, which has a special meaning or meaning for those who believe in it. Sometimes this term is also used to refer to those places that sojourn many Christians in a church or any religion, to a point where it could a have happened made mystical or magical, best known in religious terms, like miracles. According to the religion in question, there are different sanctuaries: for Catholics, the Sanctuary of Christ in Agony and the Sanctuary of Lourdes stand out; for Muslims it is Mecca and for Japanese Buddhists it is Tōdai-ji.
Religious shrines are often visited by those who believe in the religion to which they belong. During these visits, time is usually spent observing the structure of the place; admiring it. Some people choose to meditate in these places, or at least in those where the passage is not restricted. Generally, these areas can also be of cultural interest; in France, being the majority of the catholic religion, they are not only representatives of the doctrine, but of the predominant style that was maintained at the time of construction. Likewise, is Jerusalem, of great importance to Jews, Muslims and Catholics; there, there are some of the oldest cultural treasures.
In another sense, it can be said that a sanctuary is an enclosure to which animals are taken, so that they can coexist with others of the same species and are protected for the rest of their lives. This is also the name of the natural reserve, a semi-protected area, where man is in charge of managing and caring for it, since it is interesting for science.
