What is solvent? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

A solvent is the substance that is part of a solution in greater quantity. The solution is composed of the combination and treatment of a solute (in a smaller quantity, usually solid or liquid but with a higher concentration) and a solvent (liquid with propitious properties so that that solute dissolves correctly). The universal solute is water, due to its neutrality in the process and its easy adaptation to the transformation of new molecules of other elements.

The solvent is also known as Solvent, since the solute when it comes into contact with the solvent, it spreads throughout the space of the solvent and since the latter is of greater quantity, it envelops and nourishes the molecules of the solute forming a compound with combined properties of the solid and liquid, this process is known in the preparation of solutions as Solvation.

An important point is the concentration of the solution, although it is true that the solvent is defined by the physical state of the solution, the amount of solute therefore represents the concentration, the domain of the compound that is established that the lower amount of solvent and greater than solute, it will be more concentrated and in some cases, even another type of physical condition, such as the aqueous state, a physical state of matter halfway between the liquid and the solid.

According to the molecular composition and the reaction that it takes when interacting with the solute, solvents are divided into: polar, with an asymmetric electronic cloud (number of electrons and type), scattered in positive and negative electrons, an example of these solvents is the water. And apolar, with its symmetric electronic cloud, and with only one type of electrons, either positive or negative, an example of these is benzene and toluene.

Outside the field of chemistry, the word Solvent refers to when a person is free of any debt, a solvent person is someone who has paid or fulfilled a previously acquired responsibility. It is common for a non-solvent person to be called in an institution when they have not delivered a requirement that has been requested.
