Superstition is a type of belief that is based on the conviction that certain events occur due to magical or mystical causes. For example, it is said that it is bad luck to get married on Tuesday the 13th, or that it is a bad omen to go under the stairs, among others. Superstitions generally arise from popular folklore and are transmitted from generation to generation.
Another example of superstition is to think that by blowing out the candles on their birthday cake, the birthday boy's wish will be fulfilled.
But why are people superstitious? Well, a study was done at a university in the United States, where it was determined that there are 3 causes that drive an individual to become superstitious:
- To gain some control over unknown circumstances.
- To try to decrease the feeling of helplessness and weakness.
- And finally, because it is much easier to adopt superstitious behaviors, rather than to learn fighting skills.
Superstitious people tend to be attentive to everything that has to do with destiny and its dominance over their lives; women being more superstitious than men.
In most cases, believing in superstition is harmless, however when it becomes obsessive it can be harmful, since it could generate dependence on some type of amulets, which if lost or forgotten, could create a feeling of anxiety in the subject. Now, if this object is forgotten, for example, when going to a job interview, the person may doubt his capacity since he does not carry his good luck object with him.
The best way to avoid this type of behavior is for the person to learn to take control of their life, ceasing to believe in bad luck and focusing on taking control of certain situations. It is also truly essential to know how to make decisions, to be proactive when deciding, when doing this the initiatives that are taken are not superstitious.
The person must try by all means, to control their anxiety in another way, the fact that you do not wear the shirt of good luck does not mean that you will fail the exam.
