Tísico was called that person who had Tisis, a disease that we now know as Tuberculosis. The term comes from the Latin "Phthisis". The disease suffered by the Consumptive is a highly contagious bacterial disease that affects the lungs mainly but there are also other types of Tisis that affects various organs and glands but these cases are very rare. Its presence in the body is caused by the accommodation of "Mycobacterium Tuberculosis" or also known as Koch's Bacillus.
A Tuberculous or Tuberculous person can transmit the disease only by having it active, through respiration and fluids that the sick person can expel. Because the term from the medical point of view disappeared, it remained as an adjective for many things.
Consumptive is a derogatory name for a person who has an unpleasant face, characterized by the thinness of the subject, the paleness of the skin and the characteristics of a patient.
Another way in which we can find the term is in the popular phrase "Tísico Joy" here we refer to good news that takes longer to arrive than to occur. The alegrías de tísico are those that are false or that are the product of a deception.
For example: an economic news item that reflects an improvement in the national economic system, but later proves to be only a political or electoral trick, is a false joy or happiness of a consumptive, because the propaganda is harder than the benefit that could have been caused.
