It is the organ of the female reproductive system responsible for gestation where the fertilized ovum is implanted and it is where the fetus begins to develop, it has a triangular shape with an upper base and its length is about 8cm and its maximum width is about 5cm. The uterus is located in the pelvic cavity in front of the rectum and behind, and if it can be said above, the uterine bladder. Three portions are distinguished in the uterus: a first portion, which is the body, which is the widest, measuring 5cm in length.
The second portion called the isthmus with 1 cm and finally the neck with 2 cm in length. The rounded upper part of the body forms the uterine fundus to which the uterine tubes or more commonly known as the fallopian tubes open. The neck makes a slight procidence in the vagina, into whose cavity it opens. Due to its structure, the uterus is made up of three layers: a first layer called the mucosa or endometrium; the second layer called the muscular or myometrium and a third layer called the enveloping fascia or perimetrium. The cervix is solidly attached to the bony framework of the pelvis.
Instead, the body can rotate. The normal position of the uterus is flexion and anteversion, which is why when the bladder is empty, the anterior aspect of the uterus rests on the superior aspect of the bladder. The uterus during gestation grows considerably and, of course, its position and relationships vary.
