It is understood by Unasur, the acronym of the term Union of South American Nations, whose name is given to the international organization that aims to erect an identity and citizenship of South American territories, in addition to integrating the development of an integrated regional space. Therefore, in summary, it can be said that the Union of South American Nations is an organization of a political and economic nature among twelve South American territories, encompassing a population as a whole of around 400 million inhabitants, thus representing 68% of the Latin American population.
Unasur was established on December 8, 2004, in the town of Cuzco in Peru at the Third South American Summit; But it was not until May 23, 2008 that the agreement that constituted and formalized this organization was signed in Brasilia, and it is ratified by each of the members. The real objective of this organization is regional integration in matters of education, security, health, energy, environment, democracy and infrastructure, its efforts are aimed at deepening the union between the South American countries through the recognition of their regional objectives, social strengths and energy resources.
The Union of South American Nations is made up of the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Chile, the Republic of Ecuador, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, the Argentine Republic, the Republic of Colombia, the Republic of Bolivia, the Republic of Paraguay, the Republic of Peru, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Republic of Suriname, and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.
Each of Unasur's actions is based on a shared history and under the principles of multilateralism, absolute respect for human rights and existing democratic processes, and the validity of law in international relations.
