The unicorn is a mythological creature in the shape of a horse, white in color and with a horn protruding from its forehead. It is an animal full of magic, of a noble and very spiritual nature, it is thought that its intelligence is similar to that of humans. The unicorn is a legendary being that has been a character in many legends.
During the Middle Ages they were considered mythical animals capable of defeating other much larger animals. It was also thought that the horns of unicorns could neutralize poisonous substances and also that they were used as amulets of protection to avoid contracting diseases. They have been emblems of various cultures, of divinity, strength and holiness.
According to historians, unicorns came from India, whose size was similar to that of a donkey, with a burgundy head and the rest of the body white and blue eyes. Others believe that its origin is African and that it would be in the presence of a species of antelope with one horn.
It is estimated that they are immortal animals, but it is probably the fact that their existence is more than a thousand years, which leads to suppose this. Their vitality is due to the magic found in their horn, which allows them to maintain a youthful appearance. Unicorns are immune to enchantments, death spells, and poisons; its horn is capable of healing wounds with a single touch. They are independent, solitary creatures, they do not like to be in contact with other beings; however, they can manifest themselves if they are attracted by pure-hearted maidens.
According to Chinese culture, the unicorn was among the four creatures considered magical as well as the dragon, the turtle and the phoenix; for which he was seen as a figure that attracted good luck. The presence of a unicorn was linked to the birth or death of an important person.
Currently, the figure of unicorns is only part of stories and legends, frequently appearing in books and in movies. The fact that they are considered strong and majestic creatures has allowed their image to appear on various coats of arms such as that of the United Kingdom and Scotland.
