Urticaria is a disease that occurs on the skin, characterized by the formation of bumps, or as they are commonly called, hives; that can be created or appear anywhere on the body. Which can be of different sizes from small to very large, and abundant or scarce. Another characteristic of urticaria is that these rashes appear suddenly with a duration that ranges from about an hour to more than 48 hours; When these begin to appear it is common to feel burning, itching or burning and as some disappear, others begin to appear.

Among the types of urticaria are the acute, which is when this condition lasts less than six weeks; and the chronic that refers to when said affection is understood for more than six weeks. It is known that about urticaria if an individual experiences symptoms such as grain or red areas on the skin, burning, swelling, tingling or warmth in a given area, itching, etc.

Urticaria is caused by different elements, whether they are drugs, such as penicillin, amoxicillin, dipyrone among others; or foods such as shellfish, fish, eggs, strawberries, chocolate, dried fruits, preservatives and food colors, etc. on the other hand, urticaria, other times it is due to infections by viruses or bacteria, cold, contact with some plants, insect bites, infections by viruses or bacteria, parasites such as worms, profuse sweating between many other causes; although it should be noted that in half of the cases the cause of this reaction is not known.

If we talk about a mild case of hives, treatment is rarely required, since it disappears spontaneously, and to reduce the lumps it is recommended to avoid hot showers, irritation of the affected area with tight clothing, and take antihistamines. Then if the urticaria is severe, specifically if the affected area is the throat, it is very possible that it requires the use of epinephrine or asteroids.
