What is a victim? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

The victim is the individual who has suffered from damage damage being affected, either physically or emotionally, but this term, despite being commonly used to mark people, for example when we assert that Mary was a victim of the abuse of José or Ángel victim of a robbery, it is also appropriate to use it when an object is harmed by an action that compromises its safety.

The word that comes from the Latin victim refers to the living being (person or animal) destined for sacrifice. However, with the passage of time this term has been diversified and given a more general meaning and that is when the victim is often referred to as the person injured by another subject or by a force majeure.

All people who suffer a crime are victims of this fact, even if they have suffered different types of harm. The victim may have been robbed without any physical consequence (only money or other property was stolen), beaten or injured in the middle of the robbery (fist blows, stab wounds, bullets, etc.) or may have died directly as a result of the assault. In the latter case, we speak of a fatal victim.

Animals can also be victims of abuses committed by abuses carried out by human beings, but natural disasters include a very severe reason for damage, which is why many victims are generated and damaging more than living beings, the ecosystem, causing great damages that in certain cases are irreparable.
