What is existential emptiness? »Its definition and meaning

Anonim

Vacuum is understood as the absence of matter within a specific container or space; in other words, we speak of that which lacks any content. The existential word, for its part, is related to the existence of being, especially the human; much more broadly, it is the vital state or attitude. As a feeling, emptiness imposes on the individual a series of characteristics that may well be the product of a certain mental imbalance or, if it develops, cause it to appear. When the existential factor is added to this picture, it refers to the fact that, acting on these symptoms together, the person loses the meaning of his life, his existence.

Emptiness, in some cases, can be one of the ways in which a person processes grief or sadness. In general, it presents as behaviors such as social alienation, apathy, boredom, a feeling of loneliness and hopelessness, as well as dysthymia and, in much more serious cases, major depression. In a cultural context, this emotion has a different connotation. In the Western world, for its part, emptiness is often related to negativity and psychic psychic diagnoses, as mentioned above. In the Eastern, however, this is seen as a state of realization, especially in those related to Buddhism and other Dharmic religions.

Existential emptiness can be a symptom of medical conditions of alarming magnitude. Generally, it is recommended that people who present symptoms similar to those already mentioned, that they resort to consultation with psychological specialists, such as psychotherapists, psychologists and, if necessary, psychiatrists.
