A stick is a kind of elongated branch or stick which can be extracted from trees, you just have to remove the leaves and flowers. They are often used to light bonfires, hit someone or make figures on the ground. In the same way, they can serve as a support instrument, so that the elderly or with a motor disability can walk more safely.
In the biblical texts, it is mentioned that when Moses returned to Egypt, he carried a rod with which he could perform miracles. God told Moses that through that rod, he could perform amazing acts, which would lead him to fulfill his assigned mission. One of these acts that the Bible mentions is the fact of turning the rod into a serpent, likewise the fact that Moses just by touching the water of the Nile river with his rod, turned it into a river of blood, thereby demonstrating the power of God.
In ancient times it was very common for certain officials to carry a stick as a symbol of authority, since it was associated with mandates, orders or punishments. The rod as an instrument of punishment was widely used since ancient times, for example in military and educational institutions. Even today this type of correction is maintained in certain parts of the world.
The rod also has another connotation and is that of being a unit of length, being widely used in Spain and Portugal. This length equals 3 feet. However, and depending on the region, the values of the rod could be different: for the Alicante region the rod represented a length of 0.8359 m. For the Teruel region, the length of a rod was 0.798 m. for the Burgos area, one rod was equal to 0.835905 m.
